Programme of meetings

Open meetings are held at  The Club, High Street, Hanslope, MK19 7LQ at 8pm on the third Thursday of each month, EXCEPT: due to holiday periods we do not meet in April, July, August or December.

Visitors and new members are very welcome.

Annual membership £5.  Visitor fee £2.

 

18 February 2016 – Medieval Wonders of St Lawrence, Broughton by Geoff Dawes

Geoff is a member of the Two Villages Archive Trust and he will be giving a talk about St Lawrence Church and the magnificent fifteenth century wall paintings.

 

17 March 2016 – Wolverton Works & the History of the Royal Train by Philip Marsh

Philip’s presentation gives an illustrated insight and in-depth look at the 175 years of Wolverton Railway Works and the Royal train. It includes many previously long-forgotten images from 1830 to 2014.

 

19 May 2016 – Buckingham Canal, Then & Now by Athina Beckett

Athina is from the Buckingham Canal Society and her talk covers the history of the canal up to the present day and includes an overview of current activities and the Society’s aspirations for the future.

 

16 June 2016 – ‘There’s None As Quere as Folk’ by Ian Waller

Most communities have their own traditions, peculiarities and dialect. Many of these originated in early history and through to the modern day. Much has been preserved in pictorial, written and even oral histories. Ian’s talk gives examples of such traditions (often humorous) and puts them into the context of village and town life.

 

15 September 2016 – Film Night. 

Frank Byfield will be giving us a film show from his extensive collection of old films which include social history, transport and early comedies.

 

20 October 2016 – Annual General Meeting followed by More Revelations of Old Hanslope.

 

17 November 2016 – A Journey by Stagecoach from London to York in 1820 by Hugh Granger

This talk has a ‘festive’ flavour as Hugh talks about an eventful Christmas journey.
